
Jose V. SuarezHoyos, M.D. Medical Director
Dr. SuarezHoyos is the President and Medical Director of Tampa Pathology Laboratory, which he founded in 1983. He has practiced pathology in the Tampa Bay area since 1974. Dr. SuarezHoyos is certified in anatomic and clinical pathology by the American Board of Pathology. Dr. SuarezHoyos received his medical degree from Universidad de Valle, in Cali, Colombia, and completed his pathology residency at the Institute of Pathology in Cleveland, Ohio. In May of 2004, Dr. Jose V. SuarezHoyos was recognized and awarded Pathologist of the Year by the Florida Society for Histotechnology. Dr. SuarezHoyos performs frozen sections for area doctors through a mobile pathology unit and provides coverage for dermatopathology and private autopsies.
Dr. Maheswari Vinaitheerthan (Vinai) is a board certified Anatomic & Clinical Pathologist with an advanced subspecialty in Cytopathology. Dr. Vinai completed her residency in pathology at the University of South Florida with the honor of being selected Chief Resident as well as completing her fellowship training in Cytopathology.
Dr. Vinai received her medical degree from Madras Medical College at the University of Madras, India. She has held research positions at the University of Texas’s Southwestern Medical Center and the Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta, been a speaker at the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center, author of multiple publications and held the General and Systemic Pathology Laboratory Instructor position at the University of South Florida’s College of Medicine.
Dr. Vinai’s dedication and passion for the field of pathology makes her a great addition to the TPL team.

Marianna Szabo, M.D.
Dr. Marianna Szabo joined the staff of pathologists at Tampa Pathology Laboratory in June 2008. She provides diagnoses in . general pathology with special interest in gastrointestinal and genitourinary pathology.
Dr. Szabo completed her residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at the University of South Florida, and a fellowship training in Oncologic Surgical Pathology at the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute, Tampa, Florida, in 2001. Her primary interest is in the subspecialties of gastrointestinal and genitourinary pathology.
Dr. Szabo obtained her medical degree in her native country, Hungary, in 1990.
She has published several peer-reviewed articles on related topics. Board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology, she has been practicing pathology as medical director of several laboratories providing diagnoses and consultations on patients with gastrointestinal and genitourinary diseases. She has been providing consultation services in Anatomic Pathology at the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center, Interdisciplinary Oncology Program.
Dr. Kandawalla joined TPL in January of 2002. He earned his degree from Dow Medical College. After completing his residency and obtaining primary certification form the Royal College of Pathologists in the United Kingdom, he completed a further residency program in Pittsburgh and at the University of South Florida. He is board certified in anatomic pathology and hematopathology.
In addition to staffed pathologists, Tampa Pathology Laboratory has an association with several independently contracted pathologists that are available to consult and read cases if requested. CV’s can always be furnished upon request.
Roberta M. Killeen, M.D. has been a board certified pathologist since 1984. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of South Florida, Tampa, Florida and a medical degree from the University of Zaragoza, Spain.
Dr. Killeen completed a rotating internship at the University of South Florida and an anatomic/clinical pathology residency at Grand Rapids Area Medical Center, Grand Rapids, Michigan. She completed a fellowship in head and neck pathology at the University of Pittsburgh and has published several medical articles. Dr. Killeen has worked as a staff pathologist at the University of Pittsburgh, Monroe Regional Hospital in Ocala, Florida, North Bay Medical Center in New Port Richey, Florida and at Helen Ellis Memorial Hospital in Tarpon Springs, Florida. She was the laboratory medical director at North Bay Medical Center from 1992 to 1994. Dr. Killeen has been the laboratory medical director at Suncoast Pathology Laboratory in Holiday, Florida since 1995.
J. Lincoln Tamayo, M.D. is a resident Board Certified Dermatopathologist of Tampa Pathology Laboratory. Dr. Tamayo spent over 25 years as a Senior Pathologist at Tampa General Hospital, Memorial Hospital and Town & Country Hospital.
Lincoln Tamayo also held a teaching appointment at the University of South Florida between the years of 1973-1998. During this time Dr. Tamayo published a half dozen papers including; G.I. Symptoms in Women with Pulmonary Sarcoidosis.
Dr. Tamayo worked as the head Dermatopathologist at Dianon Systems, Inc. from 1988-2004.
