In 1985, Tampa Pathology Laboratory’s histotechnology school was started under the direction of Sophie Roberts. In her succession, the school was directed by Lucy Soto From 1991 through 2009 and is currently under the leadership of Myrna Cobian. From the time of its inception, more than 50 students have successfully completed the program. At this time, the graduates are working in various laboratories, hospitals, clinics and doctors’ offices throughout Florida and the United States.
The students progress through an organized program beginning in the grossroom. To ensure proper preparation for the final ASCP licensure examination, the students spend a minimum of 6 months in the grossroom with monthly conferences conducted by Jerry Santiago, B.S, Certified Instructor for Florida Community College in Jacksonville. In order to guarantee their full insurance coverage for liability and Workers’ Compensation, all enrolled histotechnology students are employees of Tampa Pathology Laboratory.
Over 90% of our students pass the licensure examination on the first attempt. Students with at least an Associates Degree in Science, receive a minimum of one year of practical training in grossing techniques, embedding specimens in paraffin, cutting or sectioning specimens in paraffin, performing special stains, immunofluorescence and immunoperoxidase stains, and doing frozen section and Moh’s procedures and must be fluent in english.

Thank you for your interest in our school of histotechnology. Our 2010 and 2011 classes are at maximum capacity. We are no longer accepting applications at this time.
We will reopen the beginning of 2012.
